This book arose out of an exhibition based on the lives of children in the Gorbals over the last 100 years. The past speaks to us clearly from pictures, photographs, songs, but never more clearly than in vivid memories, vividly described.
The late Ellen McAllister in her writing has focused a clear light on the years of a childhood, shared with so many in the days when the Gorbals was a teeming mass of vitality. The vitality is still there - and we are grateful to her for showing us so plainly that it is perhaps the most valuable part of our inheritance.
