Queen`s Park.
Opened in 1862 Queen`s Park was named after Mary Queen of Scots and the first section of land for the park was purchased  in 1857 at a price of £30,000. During the next two years 1858-59 extensive work was undertaken with laying out, draining etc.
In 1893 the Camphill estate (58 acres) was added at an additional £63,000.

Extract of “Glasgow Parks” article by Mr. McLellan, ex-superintendent of parks (Glasgow Herald 26th Dec. 1893) reads....

“With regard to the laying out of the new portion of the park, there are some four or five acres, including the flower garden, plant houses, part of the kitchen garden, and large bowling green, which are admirably suited for being set apart as a place of instruction and amusement in the shape of an arboretum, gymnasium and maze, such as being constructed at Hampton Court and Hatfield.”
